Stuck
Recently I was in NYC on business and decided to stay for the weekend after a long week at work. After a delightful weekend full of booze, Coney island, pizza and the smell of garbage roasting in the hot summer sun, I departed back home for San Francisco on Sunday morning,
After everyone had boarded the plane, out of nowhere the sky turned black giant streaks of lightening were everywhere. Realizing there was no way we could take off, the pilot came on and told us we were going to chill for a while. I was cool since i wasn't in the mood to get electrocuted or crash and die due to the blinding rain that was suddenly beginning to pour down as well.
Fast forward 3 hours and... we are stilling chilling on the runway. Fast forward another 3 hours... and, guess what? Flight 228 is still chillin.... on the runway. Yes, I sat on a non airborne plane for over 6 hrs.
Here's the thing though, it was not Virgin America's fault, it was JFK and ATC 's (that means air traffic control- i learned this during the 6 hrs) insanity. I have to say that if i ever have to be stuck on a paralyzed plane again, i hope its with Virgin. The staff was a delight and they were constantly updating us on what was up. Even on a plane with a ton of little kids and a puppy!, everyone was totally cool and taken care of.
Though, I wonder what the situation would have been like if it wasn't for the IFE?
Gold stars all around.
